Winter cometh
Di Ardaoin, 23 An t-Sultain 2004

Today is the first day of the month of Wintering in the Anglo-Saxon solar calendar, and marks the coming of the final quarter of the year, and the darker half of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The equinox actually takes place tomorrow, and for the next six months the days will be shorter than the nights. This day also marks the middle point of the Autumn season (6th Aug-4th Nov), and is the festival of Harvest Home, when the bringing home of the bounteous harvest is celebrated.

They are brilliantly done, with wonderful artwork, festivals and secular holidays form all around the world, the date in many different cultures (Pagan, Jewish, Islamic, Sikh and many more) and the month names in the different Celtic languages (Irish, Scots, Welsh, Cornish & Breton) as well as French.

As mentioned by Belle de Jour, the Jewish New Year began on Wednesday night. It is now the 3rd of Tishrei, 5765. Next Saturday is Yom Kippur, a time of purification and renewal. By the day before, …

New Lunar Month
Di Ciadain, 15 An t-Sultain 2004

Yesterday was the last day of Sultan, 164.7.11.30 and tomorrow marks the first day of the new lunar month, Dámar. Normally this is the last lunar month of the year, but this year there is a thirteenth, intercalary month, before the New Year starts with Samón.
