Holidays
Di Luain, 27 An t-Og-mhìos 2005

Well, we’ve booked our next holiday. Just a week in the mountains of Spain, but we will be hoping to see the annular eclipse of the sun on the 3rd October. Hopefully the sky will be clearer than the last one we saw, in the north of Scotland in 2003 (I remember it well because I phoned the witch just before we left on that trip - all was still well between us in those days). It was a bit coludy on the horizon and, although we saw some of the eclipse, the best part was obscured. Let’s hope Spain …

All Change

Well, I am not going to the other side of town after all. I have been persuaded to give that one up for the less secure, but better paid stuff. I hope it is worth it. I am asured that there is plenty of work going around and that there should be for the foreseeable future. We shall see. Certainly, from a financial point of view, the choice I have made will be a good one. Watch this space.

Dr Who Episode 13, The Parting of the Ways
Di Ciadain, 22 An t-Og-mhìos 2005

This was the final episode of the first, fantastic season of the revival of the show, and here are some images from this great episode, which was full of action and drama. The pace of the new series has been really good with fast action and great graphics, as well as having many funny moments, without being too cheesy. Anyway, here are the pics:

A genuinely scary moment as the daleks locate Lynda:

Tender moments as Captain Jack kisses Rose:

Solstice Full Moon

I saw a wonderful sight last night. The Moon was rising well to the south, bearing in mind that it was full on the same day as the Summer Solstice. This was at around 11pm, and it was still light, although the Sun had set around an hour earlier.

Doctor Who
Di Dòmhnaich, 19 An t-Og-mhìos 2005

So, we have just had our first season of Doctor Who on TV since 1989, and what a season! When I heard that it was coming back, I knew that it would be different. It had to be different otherwise it would not survive. It had to move with the times, and, although I accepted this, I wasn’t sure how much I would like it.

Well, it surpassed my wildest dreams. Absolutely fantastic! Christopher Eccleston was superb in the main part, and it is sad that he is leaving after one series. However, we got a glimpse of David Tennant, who …

A Nice Dilemma
Di Sathairne, 11 An t-Og-mhìos 2005

Having two job offers. Or at least, it should be nice. It certainly feels good to be in that position but it also means that I am struggling with the decision.

You see, one is reasonably well paid but secure, for 7 or 8 months at least. It is also the other side of town, which is a pain to get to in rush-hour traffic. The other is very well paid but not as secure. I have no idea if, or for how long, the job is likely to last. However it is on this side of town and it takes …

The Young Month/Month of Brightness
Di Ciadain, 8 An t-Og-mhìos 2005

We are already more than halfway through Forelithe (18th), so the solstice is fast approaching. Yesterday saw the beginning of the Moonwise Oak Moon, which is the lunar month in which the Summer solstice always falls. The Pictish month is Okmí, which comes from the Gaelic for “Young Month”, or Solsana or Solsan, which means “Brightness”. This is similar to the Gaulish name for the month, Semivisonna, which is thought to mean “Mid-Summer Brightness”.
