Today is the beginning of the new lunar month of Lent (Lenten Moon, the time of the lengthening days). In the Celtic calendar it is Naghaid, the time of staying at home and storing (Gaulish Anagantios). The beginning of ths month is usually around the time of Mardi Gras, marking the eve of the Christian Lent period leading up to Easter. Mardi Gras this year is next Tuesday, 20th February.

This post is just to say in advance that it will be a very special new month, as it is the Chinese New Year (Year of the Pig) on 18th February (next Sunday). So it will be “Kung Hey Fat Choy” to all on that day (although it also means that our local Chinese takeaway will be closed for a few days
